Our Process

Transforming Pain into Relief, One Infusion at a Time

What is Ketamine

At Ketamine Center of Connecticut, we specialize in offering transformative Ketamine Infusion Therapy, guided by our mission to provide safe and effective treatment options for individuals battling various mood disorders. Our experienced team is dedicated to ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment for every patient.

Ketamine Overview

Ketamine, listed on the World Health Organization’s Essential Medicines List since 1985, serves as a reliable anesthetic and analgesic agent. It is known for its safety, as it does not induce respiratory depression or hypotension, common side effects associated with other anesthetics. Recent studies, including those conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), have highlighted its rapid and robust effectiveness in treating Major Depressive Disorder, especially when other treatments have failed. Ketamine acts swiftly, potentially alleviating symptoms within hours or days, eliminating the usual 6-8 weeks wait associated with most antidepressants.

Ketamine Infusion Therapy Treatment

We offer Ketamine Infusion Therapy for a range of mood disorders, including but not limited to:

  • Severe Chronic Depression
  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
  • Bi-Polar Disorder (BPD)
  • Treatment-Resistant Depression
  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Extreme Anxiety
  • Postpartum Depression

Ketamine Infusion Therapy Procedure

On the day of your appointment, please come accompanied, as the therapy might leave you feeling slightly tired. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing to facilitate the placement of cardiac monitor leads. Here’s what you can expect during the procedure:

  1. Arrival: Potential pretreatment with nausea medication, as a minority of patients might experience slight nausea.
  2. Setup: Comfortable private rooms where the infusion takes place, with monitoring of vital signs throughout the procedure.
  3. Infusion: A painless insertion of a thin tube into a vein, usually on your arm, wrist, or hand, to administer the ketamine.
  4. Duration: The infusion lasts about 45 minutes for mood disorders, extending to several hours for pain disorders.
  5. Post-Procedure: Most effects wear off minutes after the infusion, though you might feel slightly tired for a few hours.
